Gemini 3: Google moves deeper in the AI edtech market
Google recently introduced Gemini, its “most intelligent model,” to much acclaim. Google claims that Gemini 3 is designed for deep, nuanced reasoning and it has reportedly beaten most traditional AI performance benchmarks. Google claims that Gemini 3 can analyze multiple types of sources simultaneously, such as text, images, and videos, and that it’s much better at understanding the context and intent behind your request.
Gemini 3 is currently available for free and is being launched into core Google’s products, such as Search AI Mode, the Gemini app, and the new Antigravity platform.
Tom’s Take: Gemini 3’s performance benchmarks are excellent, but time will tell if this translates to actual improvement in real-world uses for teaching and learning. Strategically, Gemini 3 deepens Google’s penetration of the AI edtech market. Google is integrating Gemini 3 directly into Google Classroom, its widely popular LMS, and all teachers in Google districts have free access to Gemini 3. If you consider that Google already holds roughly half the edtech market in the United States, Gemini 3 will only deepen that entrenchment and solidify its dominant market position.
