NotebookLM Introduces Featured Notebooks

NotebookLM, Google’s popular AI study tool, has just introduced Featured Notebooks, expert-curated resources that help users explore complex topics via AI-powered interaction.

These featured notebooks include content from various specialists in science, health, finance, and more, and also offer insights from The Economist and Shakespearean literature. As with any Notebook, Featured Notebooks include AI-generated mind maps and podcast-style Overviews, enabling users to ask questions and receive customized explanations.

Tom’s Take: NotebookLM’s new features build on recent improvements like public notebook sharing, which has already led to the creation of over 140,000 shared notebooks. In addition, Google has also announced that NotebookLM will soon be available to students under 18, spreading its availability to classrooms. These recent developments position NotebookLM as a versatile tool for students and educators seeking to deepen their understanding across a range of fields.

Yet, currently, there is only one featured notebook directly tied to K-12 curriculum, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare. This void immediately lessens the Featured Notebooks’ value for K-12 education. That said, I expect the number of featured notebooks to grow quickly and their range of topics to deepen. If that transpires, I expect many educators will leverage Featured Notebooks with their students in the upcoming academic year.
