New Google Classroom AI Features & NotebookLM Opens to Students Under 18

AT ISTE 2025 Google announced a significant expansion of its AI offerings for education, integrating Gemini 2.5 Pro directly into Google Classroom and Workspace for Education at no additional cost. Gemini will power more than 30 new features that will assist teachers with lesson planning, quiz creation, differentiated instruction, AI-generated study guides (text, audio, or video), and real-time analytics. Teachers can now also build custom “Gems”—AI agents tailored to their specific classroom needs.

NotebookLM, Google’s research assistant, will be accessible to students under 18 for the first time, enabling them to generate summaries, Q&A, and even podcast-style overviews using teacher-provided materials only. In all, the updates aim to personalize learning, save teachers time, and support equitable, scalable use of AI in classrooms worldwide.
