New Google Classroom Feature Enables Personalized Feedback

Google has announced a new Google Classroom feature that enables educators to personalize feedback for students’ written assignments. Google’s stated objective is to reduce teachers’ time spent writing comments and support high-quality, individualized guidance.

“Suggested Feedback” in Google Classroom

Part of Gemini in Google Classroom, “Help me write” offers teachers the option of adding private comments, and Gemini will in turn generate feedback tailored to the student’s work, grade level, and any focus area the teacher specifies.

Google emphasizes that teachers remain in control, since they review, edit, and refine the AI-generated feedback before sharing it. The feature is designed to provide more timely and specific feedback, and make personalized support more scalable in larger classes.

Note: The new features is currently available only in English and only for education users age 18+. It is available for Google Workspace for Education Plus and the Teaching and Learning add-on. Rollout began February 19, 2026.

Tom’s Take: As I wrote in my Gemini 3 vs ChatGPT for Teachers Substack post, schools will increasingly face platform AI decisions and Google has been moving aggressively fo rmonths to outmaneuver OpenAI. This new Google Classroom feature will undoubtedly be embraced by educators.
