Tom’s Tips

1.Temper Expectations

Plagiarism detection tools are generally a step behind AI generated content. And it’s not difficult to mask AI-generated writing. So, a plagiarism checker should not be your only strategy for combatting plagiarism.

2. Talk to Students

Talk to students about why plagiarism is a problem. Explain how it can have very negative consequences on their learning and their future. Help them understand how important the topic is to you and them.

3.Don’t Avoid AI

Potential plagiarism is not an excuse to avoid AI completely. AI can help teachers and students in various ways. Both teachers and students need to be made aware of AI’s benefits and drawbacks.
