Zoom Upgrades AI Companion with New “Agentic” Features

As reported by ZDnet, Zoom has upgraded its AI Companion with “agentic” features that take action for users. These new AI-agent-like features can create documents and video clips directly from meetings, organize tasks, and provide real-time summaries, as well as the ability to record, transcribe, and summarize in-person meetings.

A Custom AI Companion add‑on ($12/month) expands AI Companion across platforms like Google Meet and Microsoft Teams and includes personalized avatars for messaging.

Tom’s Take: With AI Companion, Zoom is clearly positioning itself to dislodge standalone productivity tools (like Otter.ai) by embedding autonomous agent-like workflows directly into its platform. In any event, Zoom-using schools will appreciate that the upgrade comes at no extra cost to the user and that AI Companion’s auto-recording, transcribing, and summarizing features can free up time for teachers to focus on pedagogical tasks.
