NotebookLM Now Features Video Overviews
Google announced today that is introducing Video Overviews in NotebookLM. Video Overviews are AI-generated narrated slideshows that can feature images, diagrams, quotes, and more in your research summaries. They constitute a complementary visual alternative to the existing audio‑only overviews.
In addition, NotebookLM users can customize prompts to steer the narrative, visuals, and emphasis in the direction they wish. For instance, teachers and students can target specific learning goals or curriculum content. As a result, Video Overview slideshows can help students understand abstract concepts and intricate processes and make data more understandable.

At the same time, NotebookLM’s Studio panel has been upgraded with a visual redesign and expanded capabilities. Users can now generate and store multiple Audio Overviews, Video Overviews, Mind Maps, or Reports—all within the same notebook. The result is that you have a collection of formats to augment understanding and sharing.
The new features are now rolling out in English, with support for additional languages coming soon.
Tom’s Take: These updates enhance NotebookLM’s flexibility and accessibility as an AI research assistant. Users now have more formats and media to suit different needs and contexts. Google continues to make consistent and helpful updates to NotebookLM (though the same can’t be said of all Google educational products.) About a month ago, Google announced that NotebookLM would be accessible to students under 18 for the first time, enabling them to generate summaries, Q&A, and overviews, using teacher-provided materials only. These new updates should please both teacher and student alike.
